Located at the mouth of Kenmare Bay, Kenmare is a very picturesque award-winning town, surrounded for the most part by mountains - hence the Irish name Neinín, meaning little nest. The town itself dates back to the 18th century and many of the original architectural features are still evident throughout the town today.

Because it lies between the famous Ring of Kerry and the not so famous, but very beautiful, Ring of Beara, Kenmare makes an ideal location for touring the spectacular scenery of South Kerry and West Cork. The town is lively during the summer months, popular with both Irish and International visitors. During the winter, Kenmare is very relaxed and serene - a time to recover from the last tourist season and prepare for the next one.

No matter what time of year you arrive in Kenmare, you can be assured of a hearty Irish welcome and a visit that will make you reluctant to return home. Indeed, many people living locally first came to Kenmare as tourists and were so enamoured with the place that they decided to come and live here! And just why that is, no-one is quite sure. You'll just have to come and see for yourself.

Further information on Kenmare and the surrounding area can be obtained by visiting the website maintained by the Kenmare Chamber of Commerce: www.kenmare.com .
